DAV Chapter 9 Transportation

Transportation
Service Office

(360) 457-5251

The DAV operates a VA van on weekdays, to and from the Seattle area provided a certified DAV volunteer driver can be found.

The van leaves early in the morning (before 5:00am) from the Veterans center in Port Angeles and makes a couple of stops along the way to pick up additionally scheduled riders.

Some of those stops include but are not limited to the VFW in Sequim, QFC in Sequim, Wild Birds and Fat Smitties in Discovery Bay.

To ride the van, you must have phoned at least a day ahead and had yourself put on the roster for the day of your appointment. Only persons entered into the roster before the day of the trip can ride the van on any given day (no exceptions).

The van has a very limited seating capacity so roster sign up is first come, first served.

Q: Who can ride on the van?
A: Any disabled American veteran with a pre-set medical appointment in the Seattle area.
Q: How do I get a ride to my VA medical appointment in Seattle?
A: Call the transportation office and schedule a ride before the day of your appointment (the van gets booked up quickly so schedule well in advance). If you aren't coming back the same day, let the transportation person know what day you will be coming back when you schedule the trip.
Q: What Number Do I Call To Schedule My Ride?
A: Call the Transportation office: (360) 457-5251 to schedule a ride or change/cancel a previously scheduled ride.
Q: What time does the van leave?
A: The van leaves the Veterans Center in Port Angeles at 5:00am. You must be at the Veterans Center by 4:55am to hold your scheduled space. The Driver will wait until 5:00am. There is a waiting list for most days, so if you are not at the Veterans Center by 5:00am, your seat may be given to someone from the waiting list.
Q: Where do I catch the van?
A: You can catch the van at the Port Angeles Veterans Center at 216 So. Francis street next to the YMCA on the day of your scheduled ride.
Q: What if I live in Sequim or Discovery Bay?
A: There's a pick-up point at Fat Smitties in Discovery Bay and several pick-up points in Sequim. Tell the transportation office that you need a pickup in Sequim or Discovery Bay at the time you book your appointment. They will give you further instructions.
Q: Do I have to schedule the van ahead of time?
A: Yes! Due to insurance regulations and other considerations, you must schedule your ride before the day of your appointment! No exceptions! If the van is full for that day, either reschedule your appointment, or ask to be put on the waiting list.
